Abstract

This article explores how traditional gender norms influence professional choices and career development in Japan. The research focuses on societal expectations and their impact on women's participation in the workforce. Employing ethnographic fieldwork and interviews with professionals across various sectors, the study evaluates the persistence of gender-based barriers to career advancement. Results indicate that despite Japan's economic growth, deeply rooted gender norms continue to hinder female representation in leadership positions.
