Abstract

This research explores the concept of participatory budgeting, a democratic process in which citizens directly decide on budget allocations. Focusing on case studies from Latin America and Europe, the paper assesses the impact of participatory budgeting on local governance, accountability, and community empowerment. Findings indicate that while participatory budgeting enhances citizen engagement and transparency, challenges such as inclusivity and sustainable participation need to be addressed for its successful implementation.
