Abstract

This article examines the significant yet complex relationship between theology and human rights movements in Latin America. It explores how theological perspectives and religious organizations have supported or hindered human rights advocacy over the decades. Through case studies from Brazil, Argentina, and Chile, this research highlights theological doctrines that have inspired social justice initiatives. It also discusses opposition from conservative religious factions and the role of liberation theology in shaping modern human rights discourse.
